With care and a little forethought we can all help to keep the beaches that we so much enjoy on our holidays in the best conditions for other users and for future generations.
Take all your rubbish away with you….. WHY?
*Did you know…
A cigarette stub can contaminate fifty litres of water with toxins and takes anywhere up to two years to disintegrate completely! If you smoke collect your cigarette ends and deposit them in an adequate container
Sun cream and Oils.
On a busy beach the residues from protective creams and oils can clog the exchange of CO2 from the sea to the atmosphere… That means less air to breathe! *When you apply your tanning lotions wait until they’re well absorbed into your skin before bathing and you’ll be helping to protect the atmosphere
Picnics and Plastics
A day on the beach increases most people’s appetites and it’s good to snack or have a takeaway out in the open air, but just consider this…. The plastic tray from your sandwich or portion of chips, if left on the beach, will still be there in five hundred years time and some other types of plastic packaging will still be kicking around a thousand years from now. A danger worse than sharks! The plastic can rings from your drinks are one of the biggest dangers to our favourite sea mammals the dolphins and to sea feeding birds.
Glass bottles don’t belong on a beach either… Yes we all know that glass is made from sand etc, but once it’s had that nice cool beer in it; that bottle left lying discarded won’t degrade for around about four thousand years.
So please…. TAKE YOUR RUBBISH AWAY WITH YOU! |
